TEXAS DEMOCRATS WILL NOT VOTE ON MARRIAGE EQUALITY IN MARCH PRIMARY

(Nov. 19, 2011) Members of the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) of the Texas Democratic Party voted to include referenda on the 2012 Democratic Primary ballot, but a measure advocating for marriage equality was not one of them. A vote to include the marriage equality referendum was defeated by a vote of 33-22 at the SDEC's general meeting in Austin today.

TWO STONEWALL DEMOCRATS CHAPTERS FORM IN EL PASO

At its September 25 Executive Board meeting, the Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus (TSDC) officially welcomed the Stonewall Democrats of El Paso and the El Paso Stonewall Young Democrats as new affiliates of the TSDC.  Both chapters complied with all threshold requirements for affiliate status and their Presidents and Vice Presidents were added as members of the TSDC Executive Board.

 TEXAS STONEWALL DEMOCRATS ENDORSE GILBERTO HINOJOSA FOR TEXAS DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR 

At its quarterly meeting on September 25, the Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus (TSDC) Executive Board endorsed Gilberto Hinojosa of Brownsville for Chairman of the Texas Democratic Party.  The endorsement came after the Board revised the TSDC Bylaws to allow the Executive Board to vote on endorsements instead of the Caucus membership which meets only once every two years. The bylaws change will eventually need to be ratified at the next Caucus membership meeting that will take place at the State Democratic Convention in Houstonon June 8 and 9, 2012.
